No Suspect in Rolling Hills Estates Murder

Police have called for public assistance in the investigation into the stabbing death of 66-year-old Susan Leeds in the Peninsula Promenade parking lot on May 3. A surveillance image of Leeds taken the day of her death has been released, with a request for any information.

Susan Leeds was found in her parked SUV with multiple chest stab wounds and her throat slit around 12:20 last Thursday. Leeds is a wife and mother of two, and a former registered nurse. She is described as a white female, approximately 5'2" and 140 pounds.

A local transient was detained as a person of interest on May 4 and arrested for an unrelated charge. He has since been released from custody but remains a person of interest, according to authorities. No other suspect or motive is known at this time.

Rolling Hills Estates City staff and the LA Sheriff Department held a Facebook Live event earlier this week to address community concerns over the seemingly random and shocking act of violence. Many commentators voiced their frustration with the event on social media, complaining that no real information was provided. The murder is the first killing in the small tight-knit community since 2009.
