Trump Announces Military Transgender Ban

In a snap decision formally announced on Twitter, President Trump will ban transgender troops from serving in the United States military. On Wednesday July 26, Trump tweeted, "[P]lease be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military." 

Roadside Memorial Disappears

After the tragic death of thirteen-year-old Ciara Smith at a busy Redondo Beach intersection on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Knob Hill, friends and family built a roadside memorial in the girl's honor. It grew over time, filled with mementos including pictures, pineapples, and a ghost bike (a bicycle roadside memorial placed where a cyclist has died). But, last week the memorial disappeared. 

California Supreme Court Takes on Evaluation of Bar Exam Scores

After years of steadily decreasing passage rates and increased criticism, the California Supreme Court has taken the authority to determine the minimum passing score away from the Committee of Bar Examiners. The court has amended the California Rules of Court, effective 2018, to specify that only the court has authority to set the passing score on the bar exam. 

Amber Alert Issued in Los Angeles

The search continues for Kandice Johnson, 31, who spurred an Amber Alert for Los Angeles County after stealing a vehicle with a 16-year-old boy inside. According to authorities, she is considered armed and dangerous.
