Car Crashes into Hermosa Apartment Building

Early this morning, a motorist lost control of his car while driving on Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach and crashed into the wall of an apartment building. The driver, who was suffering a medical emergency at the time of the crash, was not hurt. No one was inside the apartment unit at the time of the crash.

The driver began suffering from an unidentified medical problem as he headed north on PCH. After passing Pier Avenue, he sideswiped a car, swerved into the southbound lanes, and hit another vehicle. Stuck, the driver reversed his car, and once he broke free, he drove forward and fell down a 5-foot drop into the Marina Bay Club Apartments.

An upstairs resident heard the crash, and immediately notified the landlord while a neighbor called 911. The landlord had just recently rented the unit to a new tenant who had moved his belongings in, but happened to be out of town. The Chevy sedan broke through the wall into the unit's bedroom, onto the tenants unoccupied bed. No other drivers were injured in the crash, and firefighters closed the street down to allow an investigation.
