According to Michigan State University law professor Brian Kalt, there is a stretch of land in Yellowstone National Park where you can legally get away with murder. Kalt discovered the 50-square-mile portion of land in Idaho while researching obscure jurisdictional gray areas, and argues that within its boundaries, "one can commit felonies with impunity" in his 2005 article The Perfect Crime.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca withdraws guilty plea

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, who pleaded guilty in February to a single charge of lying to federal investigators as part of a plea deal, has withdrawn his guilty plea as of last Monday. Baca will now face trial, at which the government may bring more serious charges including obstruction of justice and conspiracy as well as the lying cause of action. Baca's decision resulted from U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson's statement last month that he would reject Baca's plea deal, which only called for a maximum of six months' prison time for the former sheriff.

2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil

The 2016 Summer Olympics have officially begun in Rio, Brazil. The Opening Ceremony took place in MaracanĂ£ Stadium on August 5th, broadcast live on NBC in the United States. The 2016 Summer Olympics will feature 28 sports with a total of 306 events. The Closing Ceremony will occur on August 21st.

Los Angeles Rams City of Champions Stadium

The Los Angeles Rams are officially back, drawing record numbers for the team's first home game back in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum since 1979. The Rams faced the Dallas Cowboys in a preseason football game on Saturday August 13th, with 90,000 fans in attendance according to the NFL. The Rams left California after the 1994 football season, but announced a relocation back to Los Angeles in January of 2016.
