Key statistics about domestic violence

It's important to note how often domestic violence takes place in order to get a sense of how frequent these types of arrests are made. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, domestic violence could take place as often as every 20 minutes. Naturally, arrests are not made in all of these cases, but this still shows just how frequently these types of things are reported.

It's also worth noting that both men and women can be involved in domestic violence, on either side of the situation. It is more likely for women to be abused, with estimates indicating that this could happen to 25 percent of women, or one out of four. However, estimates also show that men can be harmed at a rate of one out of every seven.

Interestingly, statistics also indicate that stalking is tied directly to abuse in many cases, stating that a full 81 percent of women who have been stalked by men will then be abused by those same men. The men in these cases are either partners that the women have had in the past or men with whom they are still involved.

Additionally, financial abuse is also present in many cases. It has been reported that 98 percent of alleged physical abuse cases also involved financial abuse.

If you have been accused of any type of domestic violence, it's good to know just how often these claims are made and what rights you have. Everyone deserves to have a fair trial, and you may want to learn more about all of your legal rights so that they are upheld.
